The long awaited expansion of the Bal Harbour Shops finally won approval on Tuesday from the Village Council. The ensuing construction project is set to take up to eight years and cost at least $400 million to complete. Developers are hopeful to start construction by the end of the year.
The council voted in favor of the expansion in a 4-1 vote, the same vote that gave approval to the necessary zoning law changes on April 26.
The event marks the conclusion of a contentious period of debate and opposition from such stakeholders as the Whitman family, tenants and the council.
