As we work our way through one of the worse hurricane seasons on record, Congress has passed a Hurricane Harvey aid and government funding package that would extend the National Flood Insurance Program through Dec. 8.
The flood insurance program had been set to expire Sept. 30. Congress expedited passage of the bill and at this writing, it is on the President’s desk awaiting signature.
Between now and the next deadline, lawmakers are expected to continue negotiating a longer-term reauthorization bill with reforms to the program. ICSC is looking for a multiple year extension for program certainty, the inclusion of optional business interruption insurance, multiple structure coverage under one policy, and more accurate flood mapping.
