Minnesota ICSC members held their annual "Day at the Capitol" this week and met with 15 legislative offices. Key topics discussed included the need for a transportation funding bill, the repeal of the statewide property tax levy, and a bill that deals with frivolous ADA lawsuits.
Although no substantive transportation funding bills have moved forward, discussions are continuing and proposed ideas include bonding, dedicated funds from the sale of auto parts and general fund dollars. Increasing the gas tax seems to be off the table with Republican leadership in both bodies.
ICSC members lobbied lawmakers on the importance of infrastructure and that going without a transportation bill for the third year in a row was detrimental to the state. The first attempt at bill introduction may come in mid-March.
