Birchbox, the subscription-based beauty box provider, has announced its plans to open at least two more stores in 2016. Currently, Birchbox has only one brick-and-mortar store, located in Soho, New York, an innovative and interactive two floor beauty lair.
For those unfamiliar with the service, Birchbox is known for its “box of the month” clubs, providing subscribers with a small box filled with beauty product samples each month for a low fee. 35% of the company’s revenue, however, comes from e-commerce sales of full-size products. With new brick-and-mortar locations, Birchbox can increase their profit margin even further.
Birchbox’s two new locations have yet to be decided. Beauty product lovers can vote online at Birchbox.com for the zip code they think needs a brick-and-mortar Birchbox. The company will be touring the country on a “Birchbox + Birchbox Man Road Trip” this summer, visiting the different locales with the highest votes to determine where to set up shop.
The Road Trip will function as a pop-up, featuring the following amenities: Build Your Own Birchbox, free beauty and grooming services, the “best” products of the Birchbox shop, fun events, summer swag, and additional surprises!
Birchbox is also co-sponsoring a “Summer Beauty Sweepstakes,” where applicants can win a year-long subscription to Birchbox’s monthly makeup sample kits.
The different methods of acquiring consumers’ zip codes and email addresses are not merely to discover where to place the new brick-and-mortar storefronts, however. Birchbox is also geotagging its subscribers, hoping to turn current fans into commerce customers in their stores.
